Making your own music CD's with Fx Magic Music

This is a simple, step-by-step tutorial to show you how to use Fx Magic Music to create your own custom CD that will play in most standard CD or DVD players. If you want more technical details please see our Audio CD Tutorial.

Note that MP3 CD's are data CD's not Audio CD's. See the MP3 tutorial.

Overview

We're assuming that you have a multimedia computer that meets all the requirements of Fx Magic Music including hardware to write (burn) CD's, blank media as well as a number of audio files ready to be burned to your audio CD. We'll try to keep the terminology as simple as possible. The musical selections that you intend to include on your CD will be called Source Files. The tracks on the CD that you intend to create will be called Target Files.

Step 1

Click the CD Options Button

Step 2

From the New CD Setup window, select Audio CD and then press the button labeled Create Audio CDA.

Step 3

Add your source files

Supported file types include WAV, MPEG Layer 2 and Layer 3, MPEG Plus, Ogg Vorbis and Windows Media.

If you want to include files from a CD you will need to rip (import) them to disk first.

If you want to include files that are not supported you can play them back in the player and record them to a new file of a supported type.

You cannot add copy protected files to your target list. If you try, the program will simply reject the file with no error message. If it is not a violation of your license agreement with the music producer or supplier, you can play protected files and record them to a new file which can be then imported.

Some on-line music providers permit you to burn protected files to CD from within their environment a limited number of times. This must be done using their tools.

You can select multiple files in the same folder but you will need to repeat the process to add files from another folder.

As you add target files the duration bar will increment to show the total play time of your CD. Blank media is normally limited to 80 minutes of playback.

Step 4

Once you have added all the target files, insert a blank CD in your burner and press the Start Burn button.

One more thing

If the CD that you burn doesn't play in one of your CD players you'll need to experiment with brands of blank media until you find something compatible with all your players.
